Until your turbo spools up you are supplying more fuel then it has air enough to burn, so you get smoke. The new elbow slows down your spool up time so you get more smoke than normal. If you look on that elbow there is a small hole in it. This hole is there to bleed off a small amount of pressure to work in conjuction with a chip. Your stock elbow didn't have this hole in it.
