I'm new here and posted in the powerstroke forum as I was/am looking at buying my first diesel but no one responded yet. I figured I'd post here to pass the time while I wait. I have access to my dads 1 ton dually with the 5.9 in it any time i really need it but I would prefer to have my own.

The rams have always held their value extremely well in my neck of the woods but lately it seems like the prices are sky rocketing. I got excited when I seen the truck I wanted listed on a local lot but was listed as a call for pricing ad. It's a low mileage 04 ram 1 ton srw with the 5.9, quad cab long bed. They are asking almost 30k for it! That seems like an outrageous price to me so I looked around and all the 5.9's seem to be up there in price, maybe not this high, but some are even higher than used 6.7's.

I was wondering if it's the same all over the country or just here in PA. I know it's all about supply and demand but is the demad for the older cummins really that much higher than these newer/nicer trucks that it warrants these prices?

 

I forgot to mention, most of these trucks I'm seeing are stock with no real upgrades so that's not a factor driving these prices up.

 

The demand stem from the fact that the 5.9 doesn't have all the pollution control of the 6.7

 

That's the only reason I can think of. They were and are great trucks. I wanted a 5.9 but the prices keep going up and the newer diesels are just too expensive. The ford 6.0 Powerstroke seems to be the best deals I can find. I guess with all the horror stories people stay away from them.

 

I've been seeing FORD 6.4 & FORD 6.7 selling pretty cheap, but i've been told that once you stud & put an aftermarket EGR in the FORD 6.0 you should be fine

 

The DODGE 5.9 is the bench mark that all other diesel engines are compared too !!!

 

Sell a stock unmolested 5.9 is very desirable because the guy who buys it knows just what he has to start with. And unless you are not mechanically inclined upgrades to a diesel are not hard, just time consuming and sometimes expensive. But when I bought my truck I wanted a stock unmolested truck so I knew what I was starting with.

 

You don't need that expensive a truck to have reliable cummins power. Good luck ever getting that kind of payout on an insurance claim.

 

There's no way i would buy one that expensive. It would
Be hard to get a loan for a truck that old for that much money.

I'm probably buying a 2006 6.0 Powerstroke this week. Already had head studs installed and I'm gonna check for egr delete tomorrow when I go look at it again. Newer, Almost the same miles and a hell of a lot cheaper. If anyone has any advice on these 2006 6.0s Please pass it on!!!!

 

You miss understood all I mean is I would try and find a stock unmolested Cummins I would never pay that kind of money for one but their are good deals out their if you save your money and shop around you can find them nothing against a 6.0 but you get what you pay for.
