After the folks at Scheid Diesel fitted a Cummins sporting a billet-aluminum block into the company’s record-setting dragster, a lighter overall engine package was put to good use.In the upper echelon of diesel drag racing, overcoming a hefty curb weight is usually only accomplished by adding horsepower -- unless, of course, you’re one of Dan Scheid’s customers. After the folks at Scheid Diesel fitted a Cummins sporting a billet-aluminum block into the company’s record-setting dragster, a lighter overall engine package was put to good use. The rail proceeded to churn out 6-second quarter-miles at speeds approaching (and even exceeding) 220 mph, which also indicated the Scheid team was bringing a much more powerful vehicle to the track. Taking note of all this was none other than the driver of the Power Service funny car, John Robinson.
