The only event that involves going backwardDay 2 of the 2014 Diesel Power Challenge kicked off with the Trailer Tow Obstacle Course. This is the one event that really puts the driver under pressure, as the spotlight shifts from the truck’s go-fast prowess to the driver’s ability to navigate a 10,000-pound tractor-carrying trailer both forward and backwards through sections of a coned-off course. Some competitors are very skilled in maneuvering trailers, while others may have never pulled a trailer before. Some can pull it together for the two minutes that count, while others crumble under the stress. With all the cameras poised and the stopwatch running, panic and frustration can easily set in the instant the first downed cone hits the pavement.
