ok so i've got a deutz air cooled diesel out of a trac-hoe. its a 160hp from 1980. my one friend tells me that its worth 3-4K, does this sound right? it does run great though. really i just want to know if anybody here knows how much a motor like that is worth. thanks

is it the dry block air cooled or oil filled air cooled????

 

not sure, i think its a dry block, is there a easy way to tell?

 

if its a dry block its a air cooled, the oil cooled ones have the normal cooling system but are filled with oil instead of water......some people get them confused and that is why i asked......

 

its defiantly air cooled then, got the fan with a shroud on it. the motor runs really good so i don't want to send it to the scrap yard with the rest of the machine

 

I have never heard of an oil cooled Duetz before, very interesting. I had a 6 cylinder Duetz in my Tree Farmer skidder, really ran smooth. My guess is $1000-$2000 for a good used engine. I've seen a few older excavators with them, also common on gen sets and compressors. If you could run it for the buyer, that would help alot. Phil
