Beer Fummins Got Suggestions or Tips wouldent mind hearing them.

Howdy guys Im bout to help my buddy build his Fummins.
Weve been doin our homework for the past couple of months and we pretty much have all the parts we need.

1995 Dodge Cummins P-Pump 230K with a NV4500
One 1997 Ford F 350 Crew Cab.

Were gonna re gasket everything on the truck while we have the engine out and replace or rebuild anything that needs it. Were gonna rob the motor mounts of the dodge and fab up our own motor mounts. I think the only thing we need to do is decide if were gonna use the NV4500 or the Fords 5 speed. Save trying to find out how hard it would be to swap out clutches... Lookin forward to this build! if you have any tip you Fummins Owners be glad to hear em! If we had the money and time we throw the stroker into the Dodge haha! take care guys!

Yea we have been lookin on destroked, we got it pretty much fiqured out were just fightin over the tranny I want to use the Ford 5 speed but It needs new syncs in it, and he want to use the Dodge 5 spd so we dont have to screw around with the fords tranny, other than that where good, until we start puttin together well be good!

I've killed one ZF5 and my brother pretty well destroyed his. My new one has held up really good so far. The only bad thing I've really found on the zf is that there isn't much of an aftermarket for them, and the shifting forks break kind of easy. Least that's what the wifes cousin told me after he picked thru the pieces of mine haha

Tough call... The NV4500 will probably easier in there in the long run. Or put a built auto Dodge trans behind it.

X2. Autos the way to go if you can afford it. It should be a pretty cool build either way though, keep us posted.

My zf5 needed syncros, otherwise would have kept it. I sent it back as a core for a reman nv4500. Not much diff $$-wise. Since I kept Ford t-case I had to spend over $400 for Advance Adapters adapter. If I did over I think I would go with Dodge np205 t-case as well. I had to driveline shortening the rear/main driveline as well as new longer front. If I would have kept the zf5 (and rebuilt it) I would've went with electric fans keeping tranny in the same spot and saved myself a grand or so.
Best wishes and yea, do post the pics!!

I think the NV4500 is just a smoother tranny, I like the feel of it. Is the truck 4wd or 2wd?
