Hello everyone...just wanted some feedback from Powerstroke owners about fuel economy on my new F-250. I bought an '09 with the 6.4 and get about 12.5mpg. I have been looking at the Bank's tuner and exhaust and intake systems...and wanted to know if anyone has used these products and what their opinion was. All I really need is better fuel economy for now...but may need the horse power in the future...due to my wife using the truck to haul trailers back-and-forth to northern OK. from central Tx. I have always wanted a diesel 4x4 but really didn't fully come to terms with the expense that came along with owning one...until now. I work offshore and really don't need such a powerful truck, but figured I would make it my new project. In addition to the fuel economy feedback....I would also appreciate any info. on what all I can add to my rig without voiding the factory warranty. The truck doesn't even have 1,000 miles on it yet and I would hate to do an upgrade that would cost me in the long run if something was to fail in the power-train before warranty expiration. I love the look and the handling of my truck, but would really like to know how to fix it up right from people who know trucks.

 

well i cold air intake will help some. but really i would consider removing the DPF and put a good programmer..

now im not a BANKS fan by any means but i hear they are really the only ones with good results using a tuner with the dpf still installed.

call them up and see what they tell you

 

take the dpf off never look back

 

Last i Knew any mod will. I'm not sure on the CAI as that can be reversed ez. But removing the DPF and the liberals will flip. Im sure you are not as worried about it in TX but it will be hard for the dealer to do any warranty work. My .02

 

Before you put any tuner on her, you really need to drop the dpf poop. I am not positive on this but any extra soot in the filter will probaly quickly plug it. You will be always be regenerationing or blowing your motor. But with an 09 kiss your warranty goodbye.

 

Removing DPF will void the warranty guys, you know that.

As far as what won't affect warranty, you'll probably have to ask at the dealer what you can get away with. As far as I know for other trucks you were safe with changing the intake and exhaust to aftermarket ones, but that's all you can get away with for warranty approved modifications. As far as fuel economy goes, 14-18mpg seems par for the course for those trucks.
