Default 94 7.3L Turbo Diesel vs 7.3L Power stroke

I am looking into buying my first diesel ford and have one I am looking at a 94 f350 crew that is a 7.3L turbo diesel, std 5 spd, which was put in the first have of the year? Then the PS 7.3L was put in later?? what is the difference? I am upgrading from 89 F250 supercab, std 351w, 5spd; need the 4 drs for younger boys to fit in, that jump seat isnt cutting it any longer.

Main use will be camping, fishing and hunting. Looking for something that will pull Vail pass better loaded down. This last year coming back we were successful had three elk, atv, gear, and 14 coleman popup behind it on the 89, which works it coming back towards denver.

I have the 94 I am looking at another one - 95 f350 crew 7.3L PS, auto. I just called on this one and the tranny just started slipping on hwy at 40-45 mph. Is there a simple fix on the tranny to get it home? I was thinking this one could work if I swapped it out to std 5 spd, instead of auto since I have read the issues and the cost of replacing auto tranny. Any suggestions on this or should I go witt the 94?

Thanks for any help ahead of time here!

I'm not sure of the actual differences. I'm pretty sure that teh PS in electronic and teh old 7.3 is mechanical.

thanks, I will try to do some more homework then on the two and the diffrences. I would guess that there still are aftermarket parts that are available to add to get better perfomance out of the earlier model. This is the truck I am leaning towards.

Found out the 95 f350 psk, just had the tranny slip here is what they described on the phone:

They have a 95 Ford F-350 7.3L turbo with transmission problems, slipping at higher speeds.
Unit was serviced recently- flush new filter, then driving into town and blew a front tire. Afterwards at about 40-45 mph, engine started revving up- acted like clutch in a std slipping. Thought tranny slipping, drove it back home keeping it down speeds 30 & below didn't do it again. Checked the fluid level that is good.

Is is something simple, sensor or something like that or more major issue. First auto that I have had, so no experience if this is pointing to major issue or could be a sensor or something else that is more minor. This truck is nicer and would have the PS vs the older version, but I have read about all the issues on the autos and was thinking to stay way from them. I am worried about getting it home, it is about 2 1/2 drive away. I thought maybe this one if they came down on the price a little more and I was able to get it home, that I could switch it out to a manual 5 spd instead. I have done most everything on the 89 f250, exhaust, lift, diff swithout w/limited slip, etc; but i know nothing of the auto's on troubleshooting this one.

Looking for help or suggestions on which way to go, I was planning on driving down next weekend to look at both they are about 100 miles apart. Thanks for any thoughts on what to look for or ideas on which one might be better.

Nice, my dad has a 01 6spd 4x4 crew and it's been a dang good truck. Good power, mileage and it's a nice looking rig too.
