Default What to buy

I blew up my 2005 F-350 DRW with the 6.0.

Now its time to find a new truck. lets hear from you, I want input and advice as to what to get. I am getting a used truck preferably something around the same year 2005-2009 and it must be a 1 ton truck. SRW or DRW.

Ford F-350 6.0 or 6.4

Dodge RAM 3500 5.9 or 6.7

Chevrolet 3500 6.6

What to get..........

How did you blow it up? What actually failed? Why not just fix yours?

Well I was driving along, and i got a slight temp increase in my oil, so I slowed down, then my water temp went up pretty decently maybe 35 degrees, so I was going to pull over. Then it went down to normal, then my boost gauge made some weird moves. then I did pull over and when I let everything relax it seemed ok. Needless to say when I took it in to have it looked at the head gasket is fried on both sides as is my oil cooler and a few other minor things.

I don't want to spend $3k to do a head job again. its an older truck with lots of miles and it has been used hard to pull some very big loads long distance. so I will keep it in my shop and work on it slowly. Figured I would just replace my DD truck maybe get a SRW.

An oil temp gauge and a coolant temp gauge could have prevented that. A clogged oil cooler is usually the root cause of blown headgaskets, and it's less than $300 for an oil cooler rebuild!

I have those gauges, I have 6 gauges on the truck

but what about the new head job and what ever is possibly gone wrong in there once we get the heads off (after the cab comes off) plus new head bolts, and who knows. Slightly easier to get another truck.

Was looking for advice on the 6.4 vs. the 6.0 or any other Make. I know the Duramax is a bad azz engine I just dont like the chevy interior and it lacks the space of a Ford.

Not trying to butt heads with any Ford guys... I personally like 06-07 Dmaxs, they are a great motor!

Yeah I agree. The LBZ is a great motor! I personally love the 6.4. But wouldn't hesitate to drive a Duramax!
