Default Transfer case

I have a 2000 7.3 6speed. Chain is broke in transfer case.. I bought a junkyard transfer case out of an auto. Its my understanding that the shafts are different? Would it be easier to change shaft or the chain?
?

it's probably about equal. i guess it comes down to what case has better parts in it. just make one good case out of the two you have.
