Default Best winter oil to run?

Got a 01 7.3 and its time for an oil change. What is the best oil to run during this cold weather? Be specific please.

Do you plug it in? If you plug it in run whatever you do in the summer. If you can't plug it in I have had best luck with a 5W-40 full synthetic.

even with my low compression hard starting junkyard motor I have no issues starting it in 10* weather.

If not you can run a 30wt Diesel Rated.

If you're running dino oil, a 15/40 might get a little stiff if you get close to zero degrees. By way of experience, a 15W syn will turnover better than a 10W dino, but that's are zero or better. If you never get to zero or lower, a 5W or 10W dino should do you fine.

Plugging in, as mentioned, can change everything.

I run Rotella T 15w-40 in my 6.5 all year round in NE Ohio where temps creep down to 0 sometimes and she fires right up. Of course brand new glow plugs and very high compression help . But I've heard you can't beat full synthetic 5w-40 when it comes to cold.

Delo 15W-40, all the way down to -15 without issues, used to use Rotella and it was great too, Delo is just easier to get and cheaper
