Also take the feed line from the tank to the pump loose and push air back down it to check for any trash. I don't know if yall owned the truck since new but the return line may have been moved in the tank to keep air bubbles from being sucked right back in and to the injectors. I have heard of guys using the wrong material fittings causing the metal to flake off and being sucked into the screen. Also check the rubber fuel lines and make sure all are diesel rated. Gas line will not hold up to diesel after a while.
Since you will be in the tank check to see if it has been harpooned. I'm not sure if that is what they call the mod now aday but you cut the vent neck up as close to the top of the tank as you can to help in filling the tank before the foam causes it to cut of with several gallons let to fill. I can usually fill my tank with just about half a gallon left to pump before completely filling up.

wait so you have no juice too the pump u just put on the frame rail? if you got juice to the pump (remember the pumps on VERY briefly when u FIRST turn on the key too prime the system) id check for voltage then and if you got ur 12 volts the it HAS too be the little filter screen which are in the white plastic housing attached too the sendin unit if you have no power then id think if all fuses and relays are good you might need too find the fusible link for the fuel system and check all them for GD hope this helps!
