Help with 2000 hard to start
I have a 2000 7.3l, when its cold 50 deg. or less it cranks for a long time and when it does start it does a whomp whomp (for about 30 sec) like its missing bad then runs good. went to the ford dealer and they told me to replace the cam positioning sensor, replaced it nothing happend, and replace all of the glow plugs today and it still does it, any idea's what could be causing this? any help would be great, thanks

Next time before you start it, check the level in the HPOP res. Should be within 1/2" of the top.

the fuel filter was replace a couple months ago, haven't drove it much sense then. been doing it for a while, just getting worse the colder it gets out. bought it this spring. when warm it runs good, takes a little bit of cranking to get it to fire though, about 20 25 sec.

checked the level in the HPOP res. looked good 1/2" or less, but it was running today about 5 hours before i checked it.

Ohm out the glowplugs for kicks too. Mine with 180k miles were 1.4 ohms each. The new Ford ones I installed where 1.1 ohms each.
Also, from what I read if your starter is weak, or batteries are weak, terminals dirty that the starter might not spin fast enough to kick the motor over. I would assume this would be worse if the motor is cold, but can't speak from experience.
A clogged fuel filter on mine was causing long cranking during cold and hot starts. And my filter clogged up in a couple of months of running diesel cleaner through every other tank on a truck that I allowed to sit for a year or two.
