Stock Turbo Longevity
So... I'm pretty sure my pedestal is leaking, and I was wondering if I should replace the turbo since it will be out, or just fix the leak. I've only got around 216k on the motor. Will the turbo be good for another 100k at least?
180,000 miles on mine, original turbo, no in and out shaft play, and minor up/down or side to side. Of all the new turbos I've owned and can compare shaft play to, my powerstroke turbo is perfectly ok at 180,000 miles.
Without any oil pressure you'll have some minor side to side or up/down. You should have no in and out play, otherwise your thrust bearing is worn.

had 260k on my stock turbo and it is now actually on another 7.3 doing great, like said above check for shaft play, if thats good then no worries put it back in, if you do have play, either rebuild it, or get a 38r
