Default 7.3l problem

what would cause a 7.3 to reive up and down when driveing. even when on cruze. im baffeld. can any one help thank you

Auto or 6 speed

Does the engine rev up and down or just the gauge?

auto, and both on the ennine and gauge

how long has it been doing this.... usually if it is the convertor locking and unlocking the tranny will overheat and burn up.....fairly quick........
