Just an FYI... HPOP's do not generally die. The IPR's have issues, but in all the years driving these trucks I have seen one HPOP that died.

They can get weak as time goes on, but they dont die very often...

didnt know that...in my 6.0 i went through 4 or 5 hpops in 4 years and assumed there was the same potential problem for the 7.3l

either way the hpop is gunna be swapped and have a new/rebuilt ipr put in even if its just to keep up with injectors when i finally get them

My boss has an 02 7.3 that had the pump go bad. It would start and run but all of a sudden it would lose power and when I checked the pressure it was only 300 to 500 pounds. You could shut it down and restart and it would run OK for a little bit. I replaced the IPR and ICP sensor and the only thing that fixed it was another pump.

I am not saying they never go bad, but they are not a part you replace as preventive maintance. Its not like a spark plug you replace every 30k...

We have trucks in our fleet that have 3-400k on them with the factory HPOP's and they run great...

Dont fix it if its not broken.

i see...good to know...either way a new pump will have to go on to ensure that i get the most out of the injectors im going to put on. so for me its just a matter of time before i need to swap it anyway

Like was said earlier, if there is nothing wrong with your current pump, there is no reason to swap it... I have seen new Reman pumps put out less pressure then the pump that was removed.

Just a "fair" warning is all.

Give Bob a call at DieselSite, the AD is a nice pump and he pressure tests them before they leave the shop.
