Default First Truck! 1999 POWERSTROKE!

Wow, I can't beleive how lucky I am. I had a gem that fell in my lap. It's a 1999 f-350. Dually, and a rusted through service bed. Got a 6 speed. I only paid (I can't even beleive it) 1500 dollars!!!!!!!! Anyways, @95powersmoker already gave me some good advice on mods. He said to always add the ness. gauges first, then make sure you go through and change all the fluid. I'm not gonna lie, it's a 287,000 mile truck. But, beins I am almost 15 and don't need a ride for a couple of years, what are some good mods? Time, skill, and tools aren't an issue for me. Are there and mods you'd recomend for the appearance? I really want to do the '07 front end swap. Any suggestions?? Thanks Guys.

Remember the 2005-2007 are all the same when looking for parts.

First mod would be gauges...

If it were me I would go thru and pull the valve covers, check the UVC harness's and wire harness. Check the up pipes and pedistal for leaks. Replace the glow plugs and injector O rings...

With those miles on it, and not knowing the history that would be a great first start...

RiffRaff has a great deal on injector O rings and genuine Motorcraft glow plugs...

Sorry Joe, I had to do it...

Do the maintenance items first... Those are just as important as anything that will add power.

thanks guys. I am deffinentally going to go through the truck, but my dad is a mechanic and has done all the fleet work on the truck, so I know it's pretty much good and has always been taken care of. It does need a new CPS sensor though. Whats that, like a 40 dollar part? Anyway, my goal is to reach 300 hp. However, I'd like to do it without creating to much harm to the engine. I don't know anything about high performance 7.3's, can they handle the power? And does anyone know roughly how much the 05-07 front end swap will cost? thanks guys.

Yep, CPS isn't a very expensive part. Riffraff, a site sponsor carries them. Might want to hit him up for one...

For 300hp, you could throw on some custom tunes and hit that goal easily.

Allright, I'll check him out. What kind of stuff does he carry? Strictly mechanical or little stuff? It wasn't treated nicely by the company drivers and needs things like trim peices, mirrors, and a gear shift ****.
This is an early 99, I hear they are less on power than the late 99 on. Is this true?

Yep, its true, this thread will help you out...

Riffraff has everything, OEM and performance.

For the trim pieces and stuff like that, might just search your local junk yards...

Allright man thanks. And the 7.3 can handle 300 without a major sacrifice of reliability? I know know this summer the truck is gonna be used to tow a gooseneck with atleast 8,000 of cattle and a round bale gooseneck that does 7 bales. Is there a thread around here that tells me how to decode the VIN to determine what axle I got. Is it even in the VIN? Thanks again sorry I am asking so many questions.

There should be a sticker in the door jam and it should have an axle code...

Chipping the truck will get you close to your goal and will leave it plenty reliable.

The normal sticker wasn't there, where is it on the early 99's? I wasn't in the bottom of the driver's side door like on my dad's '01.
Maybe someone took it off. I don't know why they would do that though
