Default diesel lag?

i have a 2001 ford f250 with edge with juice and a custom air intake with a 5 inch exust. when i step on it the truck will get going then have a a second or 2 second lag and it will start to red line why is that?

Hard to say, when you say redlines, do you mean it free rev's to the red line or just runs up to the red line?
