Default y pipe gaskets

i ve got a 99 7.3. at least one of my donut gaskets between my y pipe and exhaust manifold is leaking. i was told instead of using factory replacements i could replace them with 2" donut gaskets from an early 80's chevy. has anyone ever heard of or done this?

You can use them but it is a bandaid at best. They will leak again, sooner than later unfortunately.

Up-pipe donuts for Small Block Chevy, Napa F17250, CarQuest F1750

The permenant fix is International Bellowed up-pipes.

thanks for the reply. i heard the bellowed pipes were pretty exspensive. i ll probably just go with the gaskets for now. my truck money is a little tight right now. i m putting in 8 new injectors sunday and had to replace a front bearing assembly last week.

where would be the best place to get the bellowed pipes?

Best place to get them? Bellowed up-ppipes. They have the best price I have found anywhere and you won't beat the service.

You can save by replacing the donut gaskets but they will fail again and probably soon. They wear a groove in the pipe and then they don't seal right at all. Plus, and trust me on this, you only want to do this job once. I have installed about a dozen sets of the bellowed and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Do it once and forget it.
