I love battery threads

Optimas aren't that bad.
(In my opinion) most people abuse them and wonder why they die.
The red ones are pure starter batteries. If you discharge them below the 50% mark they will die real quick. They are simply not made for deep discharge, due to their thin cell windings. On the other side they deliver a very high cranking ability when cold.

If you wan't to discharge them very often you have to go with the yellow ones. They have a much thicker coils, designed for constant discharge(which does not mean that they like to be discharged below 50% neither).
But they are able to handle this about 300 times longer than the red top. Major disadvantage is the relative low CCA. Someone beeing good in weightlifting will never be a good sprinter...

Nothing wrong with the wallys as long as you obey the major battery rule valid for all batteries: Recharge them as soon as possible after a heavy drain. If you drive around with an exhausted battery, you call for trouble!

Just have in mind that battery capacity drops by 10% during cold times. Second thing is a battery is charged in a car mostly only 3/4 of it's capacity.
Now drive around with weak battery and wonder why it is impossible to start your truck or why batteries die so often in the winter.

Oh I'd trust a optima anyday, iv had red tops before and have never been left stranded by one, I just can't get a discount on them anymore. I didnt mean to start a great debate, anyone who is around cars and trucks enough knows what is junk and what isnt. I just want to know what kind off CCAs these trucks like, and from the sounds of it 950 is the golden number.

Well unfortunately most things are either made in china or from parts made in china.... Including our beloved American trucks.
