The donaldson tymar filter is made with moisture resistant fiber. Not so sure about the napa filter. I know I saw at one point 2 numbers, one for paper, one for the moisture proof material.

If you want a cheapy intake that you can adapt to tymar get a Bomz short ram intake for 100 and stuff a tymar inside it for another $20.

I'm about to move my driver battery to the pass side and build a true cold air intake using parts from the bomz to guide me to bending some of the sheet metal.

as for the AIS thanks for the website info 1 ton, according to their page they give two options 99-03,and those prior, I think it would work. kinda silly for me to be indecisive, pretty sure anything even stock would be better than whats on their now

The AIS may work on pre 99 years, not sure. A call to diesel power products may clear this up. I recommend buying the optional sleeve for the AIS, glad I did.

right now I have the Bomz tube and filter in the truck as I wait for my next shipment of donaldson and baldwin filters (I buy 48 oil, 24 coolant, 12 stock fuel, 6 pre and 6 post fuel filters and 12 tymars at a time for people I know) by this weekend I will have the drivers side under the hood stripped, battery relocated to the pass side and development of my new cold air intake will be started. The bomz tube when turned almost puts the tymar far enough forward to fit my needs falls about 3 inches short of putting the tymar right against the radiator support where I want it, once I have the measurements I can mandrel bend a custom tube to fit.

The tymar is OK, but to really get some performance you need to feed it cool air and get the pipe away from the compressed air downtube which gets hotter than hell.

So why don't you remove that pesky intercooler that robs boost if it doesn't matter how hot the intake air is?

To precondition the pre-compressor air to be close to the post-compressor temp causes a vicious circle of expedited temps fed into the already taxed air to air intercooler. Temps of 100+ over ambient are not unheard of post intercooler when using a steel elbow to stick the tymar between the battery and the master cylinder as many people do. Aluminum tubing only exasperates the situation.
