Default ENGINE SWAP?

I'm swapping a buddies 7.3 this weekend, his truck is a late 99(99.5), the engine I'm installing is a early 99. Can I put his intake Y-pipe and turbo on the older engine and it run correctly? I do have the IDM for the older engine, will I nee to install it also?

Think IDM's were interchangeable between years. The intake plenums will swap right over, so will the exhaust manifolds and up-pipes. You'll need to swap those in order to run a SD turbo, or any of the drop-in upgrades. Swap the HPOP too, and the new engine is basicly a 99.5.

Like Tom said, Need to swap the Intake manifolds, Drivers side exhaust manifold, up pipes and collector, turbo pedistal and turbo, basicly your going to be running the long block from the E99 truck.

Need to swap the injectors out if he does not want to be running the AB injectors that came in the e99 trucks...

For starters, I got it swapped Monday of this week. I was informed incorrectly about the new engine, it is the same year as his current one. They are both early 99 I believe because the turbo, intakes, and plentums match and they are alot smaller than the ones on my 2000. Anyways I used everything on the new engine, I ohm'd all glow plugs before I put the heads on(0.8-0.9 ohms). I did the same with the injectors(1.4-1.6 ohms), confirmed harness's were good. It supposidly has a new cam sensor, ICP sensor. I filled with fluids, filled HPOP reservoir, confirmed voltage passing through GPR for about 45 seconds after the light goes out. For some reason it doesn't even try to hit, no smoke at all out of pipe. I did discover it has an aftermarket alarm system, that unfortanatly, the owner doesn't know how to disarm. Doe anyone know if it could be breaking power to the IDM? I have another known good CAM, ICP sensor I can try.

Need to get a scanner on it and run a buzz test to start, check for codes, watch ICP pressures/duty cycle while cranking...

It RUNS!
I couldn't gain access to a scanner, I dropped the steering column to follow the harness of the aftermarket alarm. After removing it from the truck and reconnecting all wiring that had been spliced, the truck started. Thanks for the help
