Default engine block swap

I am looking into doing a swap with my engine from a 97 5.9 cummins into a 07 Ram 2500 truck. The 07 already has a 5.9 cummins in it but the dealership says the motor needs to be replaced. Would it be possible to put my 97 block under the 07 engine components such as head, manifold, fuel system and so on and on or would it be more practical to just stick my entire 97 5.9 under the hood of the 07 truck? Also, will the 07 auto trans bolt up to my 97 5.9? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well your 97 is a 12v and your 07 is a 24v.. I believe they are both B series engines. Why dont you just rebuild the 07 engine? I think you are going to have a nice headache trying to use an 97 engine with a 07 electronics...

I would do that except I am trying to go as cheap as I possibly can and I also prefer the 12 valve engine over the 24 valve. I'm pretty good with wiring so I don't think the electronics would be the problem. I am mainly curious if the tranny will bolt up to the old 12 valve before I even decide to start considering the swap.
