Default MPG on an 03 7.3 4x2. Idiot gauge wrong?

I just sold my 2003 ford 7.3L 4x2 to a friend of mine. According to the idiot gauge on the upper console I was getting anywhere from 25 to 30 miles a gallon. I thought it was true and never checked it against the odometer. HE HAS and found that he is only getting 15.3 on the truck. I have a banks kit and a 4 inch exhaust. I found it hard to believe.

What are you guys getting on the 7.3?

15-17 is normal... You were never getting 25-30mpg...

mpg gauge can be reset by holding both buttons down together it should zero out and give you new reading for the current driving habits.
