Going to look at a complete OBS motor in a few hours for $900. If its a runner I will do a quick freshen up and throw it in.

That's really too bad. I was pretty envious of your truck, the 7.3s are good motors. Had no idea that could happen though!!

I have to ask a dumb question:
Are the 7.3 not "bullet-proof" like I was always told
Or do they work great, just not under extreme load/too high HP limits?
I have an 02 and want to make it the BEST it can be....

2002 with injectors... You are walking the very edge, with good tunes, your ok to about 400hp, but with PMR rods I would not push it past 350...

Ford changed the Rods in 2001 to powdered metal, Weaker when not designed to be PMR's from the get go. The 6.0 Diesels use PMR's but they were designed to be that way.

No, the 7.3 is far from bullet proof. There a workhorse no doubt, but you start modding them, they will break.
