Default Hard Starting

hey guys, probably a newbie question. but i just bought my powerstroke last week, and LOVE IT!! but yesterday i went to start it and it just cranked and cranked and cranked then finally it started, but blew a nice white puff of smoke out of the stacks... drove it down the road about half mile and blew the healthy black smoke like it has been. just curious what would've caused it to be so reluctant to start yesterday..

BTW: it WAS raining.. could water/moisture cause it to do it?
and it does have a DP tuner..

preciate the answers in advance!

thanks in advance!

First off check your oil level. The power strokes use High Pressure Oil to fire the injectors. Also how cold is cold. Are your glow plugs working?

hey guys just checked oil level.. and it was a little over the "normal operation" level. but in video three for the first 20 seconds it cranked just like that. then when it finally did start was when the plume of white smoke came out. i didn't touch the pedal just what it did when it started.

it wasn't cold, it was near 60 degrees outside.. just real humid and misty.

not sure mine cranks for about 2-3 seconds and the oil is on add right now so im not sure if it would be oil related. I know when it is running white smoke means head gasket. When it puffs white when it stats im not sure what that is

If it didn't/doesn't have enough oil -- it wouldn't start/stay running -- if it is running and you lose enough oil to where it will no longer fire the injectors, then it will simply shut down until there is enough oil to create the pressure needed...

as for your hard start -- check your Glow plug system (relay/plugs/batteries) -- I replaced a glow plug relay on my truck and its started great since then! Good way to test is to plug your truck in and see if that helps it start (while warm)

well she did it again today. cranked and cranked and cranked with white smoke. did it twice for about 5-10 seconds both time. then finally waited a minute then it fired up. NOW i had buckets covering the stacks most the day due to the rain. but when i came outside after work one had gotten blown off. and rain water could've settled in the exhaust.. could rain sitting in the exhaust "plug" it up and just do the white smoke / not start? i checked oil couple days ago and there wasn't any dreaded white residue so.
