Default Powerstroke tranny limits??

My grandpa has a 2002 Ford F250 with the 7.3 its an auto for a spare truck and was just wondering if it is safe to keep the chip on 70hp or 100hp all the time and wont hurt anything. I drive this truck more then my own and was just wondering for myself!

Thanks

Might also be a good idea to install a transmission temp gauge. I can't say what the limits are, as I don't know much about Fords. Someone should/will chime in!!

I have a PMT on mine and it monitors most of the trucks paramaters, and I've run my truck on the economy and also the performance continuosly on the highway for extended trips and in the city. and have never had any kind of overheating or slipping issues. I generally drive pretty tame but do get on it once in a while if a 'stang starts acting tuff. I also have a lift and 37's and still no issues.
So as far as I'm concerned you should be good to go

The 4r100 is a junk tranny from the factory. It will fail at stock HP levels, let alone with a mild HP bump. Get a tranny temp gauge, a good valve body and hope it holds together. Some will take 300hp for a while, some will not.

There is a HUGE differance between the 4r100 (behind the 7.3) and the 5r110 (6.0). The 5r will take 400-450 without to much stress...

Run it however ya want, but start savin up money for a tranny. Buy a BTS, or find yourself a trusted and very good trans builder and get the kits from RacerX (google it) they are very very good kits. Mine lasted quite a while being really really hard on it, it never totally failed I was just noticing some slip in one of the gears. When I tore it apart I found a bunch of burnt clutches, but it still drove. This was on the early 99 I used to have, I was puttin down 285 at the wheels (I know, not a ton of HP) I do agree with CSIPSD, and he really know his stuff when it comes to the 7.3 trucks!

if only the guy would have done a little tranny work you wouldn't have the problem.

Ive 2nd gear twice on my 00 7.3L thats with moderate towing and dusting rice rockets here and there. its not really worth it. Might as well invest in a sun coast tranny. They go for about 2500.00 well worth it and they have a great warranty.
