Default Chip vs Programmer

I've been wondering which would be better in the long run, that wouldnt cause problems. Ive heard that a programmer is better, so give me feedback let me know what you guys think. and also add some programmers/chips that are good for the price, nothing extremely to high but not like 100.

it all depends on what you want to accomplish, you can make more power and have more variety with a chip. if your looking to do future mods later such as bigger injectors or turbo go with the chip, if you just want to add a little more pulling power go with a programmer. if you do go with a chip be sure and put in gages first, you need to keep an eye on boost and egt's.

as far as chips go you will hear the same thing over and over, DP tuner or Tony Wildman
I don't know much about the different programmers, I run an Edge in my truck and it works just fine for what I wanted

A chip just gives you too many options not to get one. 6+ settings you can switch on the fly, tuned to your specific PCM code and mods.

With a programer or chip you need to get gauges first, Pyro, Tranny and Boost atleast.

I agree. I had the Edge New Evolution, and I tried the SCT Livewire before listening to everybody and going with a DP Tuner chip. The only reason I would consider a programmer now, is for the cool gauge displays they have like the Edge New Evolution. Small, OEM looking and accurate.

The DP chip, with custom shift points in there from Jody works awesome. I am told when I upgrade the turbo, the current pgms in it will accommodate the added boost too!

I used to live in Dallas. You can't swing a dead liberal without hitting a custom car or truck shop. Look around Irving or Lewisville especially along I35 or LBJ. Check the phone book for Corvette or other muscle car specialists. Gauges are pretty easy to put in. One of these places would do a good job for you because they have to for their other customers.

Good luck!

You can install the gauges yourself, its easy and takes all of an afternoon with basic hand tools. Most shops will charge 250-300 to install a set of gauges...

Default Best bang for the buck...

The best bang for the buck with all the options out there on chips is with out any doubt the Edge Evolution (not the attitude). You get all the benifits of a downloadable programmer AND you can swith between the three power levels on the fly AND it has a display with gauges. For around $480 you get everything you need in a box. Otherwise you have to buy the guages, install the sensors, then get a programmer that yo have to download and run a program one at a time. Plus with the Evolution you can adjust tranny settings, calibrate speedo, all that stuff, The edge Juice w/Attitude only gives you 5 power levels and doesnot recallibrate any tranny settings so you make tons of power with factory shift points. I installed the Juice w/Attitude on my '99 dodge. The damn thing made so much power the tranny couldn't shift at WOT . For the money, nothing can compete with the Evolution from Edge.

It seems Wildman has more experience with OBS trucks and DP is more experienced with super duty's. both are great from what i've heard, but that just seems to be the trend? check them both out, it won't cost you anything.
