What To Look For When Buying One

I had a Excursion and loved it but, mine was a V-10. As far as the vehicle itself you can't go wrong if you can afford to feed them fuel. If possible try to find a Excursion with the 7.3 diesel. When I thought about getting a new one the 6.0 was out and the dealer even told me I would be better off finding a older one with the 7.3

he needs to look out for all the exact same things he'd look out for on a Ford truck -- the engine and tranmissions are all the same. The thing with the 7.3's is that nearly NONE of them will have any factory warranty remaining and the excursion is heavier than the trucks, therefore the lackluster horsepower and torque of a stock 7.3 will feel and be sluggish...
thats why I would recommend a 6.0L - especially the 05-07 versions... everyone knocks the 6.0's ... but I say, there are 2-3 things that you know could go wrong, just be prepared for them and once those are fixed (headstuds and egr) then you have a relatively quick diesel that will last a long time! The 6.0 just has more go than the 7.3... and better mileage too
