What To Look For When Buying One
I was asked about a Diesel version of the Excursion today and what he should be on the lookout for while he's shoppin for one. Any words of wisdom here.

I had a Excursion and loved it but, mine was a V-10. As far as the vehicle itself you can't go wrong if you can afford to feed them fuel. If possible try to find a Excursion with the 7.3 diesel. When I thought about getting a new one the 6.0 was out and the dealer even told me I would be better off finding a older one with the 7.3:humm::U:

he needs to look out for all the exact same things he'd look out for on a Ford truck -- the engine and tranmissions are all the same. The thing with the 7.3's is that nearly NONE of them will have any factory warranty remaining and the excursion is heavier than the trucks, therefore the lackluster horsepower and torque of a stock 7.3 will feel and be sluggish...
thats why I would recommend a 6.0L - especially the 05-07 versions... everyone knocks the 6.0's ... but I say, there are 2-3 things that you know could go wrong, just be prepared for them and once those are fixed (headstuds and egr) then you have a relatively quick diesel that will last a long time! The 6.0 just has more go than the 7.3... and better mileage too |
Look for............................................... .....one with a cummins conversion!!!!!:tttt:

Well he bought this truck. Now he's lookin for ideas on a fueling box or anything else simple he can do just to perk it up some.

My wife has a 2001, she loves it... What year does he have?
|
It's a 2000 model.

Ball joints, brakes, oil leaks, transmission shifting and fluid condition.
It's just a 3/4 ton truck with a welded on canopy and extra interior stuff....same rules apply as to a Super Duty. I like them...if I didn't need the 8ft bed I'd drive one in a heartbeat over a crew cab pickup. |
