Default hpop

Hey guys. I took my 99 E-450 box truck to a mechanic because it was leaking oil pretty badly. He told me the hpop gaskets were leaking and it would be no big deal to change them just a lot of time and that equals money. Right from the get go when I got it back it still leaked and I was told the turbo pedestal needed to be replaced. After a bit I looked in at the hpop and its still leaking, I called the mechanic and his response was "huh, guess the pump is bad" Because its a van up cant really get in there up close to look at it but you can see it drip. My question is, would it be obvious to tell if the pump was leaking or if the gaskets were just leaking. Also, How hard of a job is it to replace the pump and is there any tricks to know when doing the pump like priming the pump or bleeding the system. Im not a total dipshit, I changed out the injectors and have done little **** like that but I fear what I have not done before. thanks for your help

Only place it might leak from is the plug in the back I think, I had one do that to me. Changing it isnt hard. You will have to pull the fuel bowl, then its 6 bolts on the reservoir, 2 on the inspection cover, 2 on the pump and one on the pump gear

Yes you do, you have to be able to stop the gear from turning as you loosen the bolt
