Default Starter screws up alternator?

Starter went out. ever since replacement (installed new starter) when I have my a/c on my truck dies when not in pedal, meaning idling at turtle pace without foot on go.

Hmmm???

no SES light at all, but I've noticed that my Scan Gauge II shows the volts fluctuating at a much lower voltage than before. Used to show 14.4 steady before starter went out, with two new Duralast Gold batteries. Now, with again brand new batts (thought it was them so traded them in under warranty but still didn't start, then bought new starter in the same day so brand new batts again at time of starter replacement) volts fluctuate between 13.5 and 14.

I know one is tied to the other, starter to alternator and vice versa as this has happened on other vehicles of mine in the past, just was hoping for a possible different option being a diesel, my first. I understand this truck is highly sensitive to voltage, the pcm. Is that correct?

Thanks.

The only one that matters, of course. 7.3 di.
Previous poster said he's unfamiliar with the 6.0. I was too until today when I helped a friend remove his turbo for a complete egr delete. Heck no, I wouldn't own a 6.0.

Thanks for the help, guys.

it could be associated with electrical loads, did you monitor the voltage with all the lights and loads turned on?

not really although I think at night I noticed with the a/c and lights and radio on the voltage at one point dropped to 13.2. I'll check now, gotta go for food anyhow. I'll report back.

I have a fleeting suspicion it's the alternator.

yeah, when idling with lights, radio and a/c on high the voltage dropped all the way down to 12.0 at one point. she almost died on me.
