Default Turbo Question

I have a 99 F350 7.3 the truck has 208315 miles on it. I have a vacuum / boost gauge hooked up in between the hose for the MAP sensor. Driving the truck the gauge shows vacuum and no boost. I was told that if it is reading vacuum that the turbo has gone out. Is there away to double check the turbo to see if it has gone out. I know when i tow a trailer and go up a big hill the turbo does not kick in. It use to work great and have alot of power know no power Can someone PLEASE help me on this.

Did the boost guage show boost before, i had trouble with mine when hooking up in the MAP line, i ended up drilling into a CAC line and running my guage off there and it worked great.

To check your turbo, remove the intake ducting at the turbo. reach in and check the turbine wheel for play, as well as the blades for damage. Also check and make sure the turbine wheel spins freely and is not seized. Any one of the above mentioned will indicate turbo failure.

Ok, I checked the turbo the wheel turns freely. There is no play in the shaft and the blades do not looked damaged. I did noticed that on the drivers side were the hose from the intake connects to the engine that place the gaskets was sticking out could that cause to have no boost and show vacuum and to cause the turbo not to work.

If that gasket is sticking out in that area, its a pretty fair guess that you have a good boost leak. In other words, your turbo is working and making boost, but its leaking out. Its an easy fix, just time intensive.

The code P0475 says it is Exhaust pressure control valve malfunction. Hope this helps Also you said that the gasket sticking out could cause a boost leak. The size of area of the gasket is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch long. Would that also cause no power and to run a little rough.
