Default truck die with low oil?

the reason i ask, i was trucking today with my oil level down 2 quarts because i was going to change the oil tonight (which i just did!), was going down a decent size hill and the service engine light came on, truck died. drifted to the bottom and it started right up and went the rest of the trip (250 miles or so) with zero issues. i was thinking the oil level, so i did add a quart or so before i left the side of the road. never had this issue before.

I'd like to think the oil pan design would allow the level to be low by multiple quarts before not being able to suck up oil. Typically the pick up screens are 1/2" to 1" off the bottom of the pan. It could be possible your pick up tube has an issue.

All that needs to happen is for oil pressure to drop low enough for the injectors to stop.

Pull the code and see what it was and you'll have your answer.

that's a ICP code. it may have not had enough oil to feed the injectors but that is very unlikely only being 2 quarts low.
