We recently bought a 2001 F350, 7.3, auto, dually to pull our 5th wheel (36'). We could not go after a new vehicle (cost factors) and was directed by some RVers in this direction but we don't what we don't what we should expect for mileage. Truthfully, we don't know where to start to try to optimize the performance either. We don't drive fast. We know that there are basics we should know and would appreciate any help. Thanks

i have 3 7.3's i tow with for a living. keep your tires inflated, get a chip of some sort (edge, ts, dp tuner are all good-i've run all 3 with similiar milage results) get a good cleanable air filter and run 60-65mpg and will be happy. i dont pull campers, but my 40'flatbeds weigh around 9500 each empty, and i get between 12 and 13 empty. 2wd or 4wd? my 4wd auto is the worst truck i have for fuel milage. around 12 empty. hope this helps. these are great trucks, whoever told you to get one is a smart man!!!

Free flow exhaust, or just cut the muffler out for the cheap way. Intake (6637 filter), and some tunes (PHP, DP, ts, beans, swamps, ect.) and you should be set.
