My buddy has a 99 7.3 with a 6 pos chip w/ no gauges. it died yesterday and he immediately changed the cps. I looked and the tach doesn't move while cranking. the fuel pump works (audibly at least) but sounds less loaded than usual according to him. the fuel filter is clean, he did pull the filter heater harness and one lead looks burned, he had 2 blown fuses the other day that he bypassed with solid connectors. idk why, guess he didnt have any fuses on hand. we visually checked fuses under the hood, swapped relays 1-3 around. any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

 

Any smoke when cranking? Oil level fine? WTS light coming on? SES light on?

Get some fuses in the proper place and hope he didnt cook the PCM.

 

I did not think to look for smoke while cranking, but i dont think so. Yes Oil was fine, yes WTS light was coming on. No, SES that I saw.

He told me that he fixed whatever was wrong with it yesterday but when he went to drive it today to the parts store, he accidentally caught the wire going to the 6 pos ts chip and pulled it out a little or a lot im not sure. He said now it wont start and there is no WTS light coming on.

Now he thinks the PCM is screwed

 

yeah i'd say he fried the PCM. if he pulled the chip out a liitle bit with the ignition on...
