Default Input/advise on 02 7.3 F350 Mods.

Hello all,
A little history. 1st I don't know jack about diesel motors. I'm a pretty good mechanic on gas engines though never worked on a diesel engine. Mostly I use the truck/pickup for pulling my boat down to the coast (from Austin,TX), road trips, and getting stuff from Lowes/Home depot. Other than that it stays parked in my driveway.
I wanted to do some modes for my (new to me) 02 F350. As far as I can tell it's all stock and can't see any current modes. I’d like to get more response off the line because as it stands it feels like it's got a heavy as*. Also wanted to get the best MPG out of it. Don't really know how much MPG I get right now (not a big deal for me) but just wanted the best/reasonable mode for good MPG.
Motor has got 240k miles on it, checked it for blow by and it’s got very little if any blow-by coming from the oil filler tube. Don’t' know if that is a good or bad thing.
The modes I was throwing around in my head where:
- mbrp turbo back exhaust. Currently it has a 3" down pipe connected to a 3 1/2" exhaust with stock muffler, which I took off and is not running with just an open tube. (don't know if that is good/bad). For the turbo back exhaust I don’t know if I should go with the 4” or 5”. Also don’t know if I should put a bigger turbo on it? Being that it’s got 240k miles on it, maybe a bigger turbo is not a good idea?
-Air intake….Should I put one of those fancy racing tube things on it or maybe just a K&N air filter?
-I know I want a chip/tuner on it that I can change on the fly…don’t have any idea what brand or type to use. Also don’t know if that is a good/bad thing with 240k miles on it. Don’t want to blow up my engine.
Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

always go with a k&n mines got 260k on my motor and it works great u can never go wrong with a k&n. mbrp makes a great exhaust i have a 5" on mine but a 4 will be perfect i only got a bigger one because they gave me a free upgrade when i got mine. for a chip and tuner it all depends on what you want to do with your truck if you want to keep a stock but you want a bit more power edge sct super chips from what i hear are good. i have an edge unit i like it but i will be changing to a ts 6pos chip sometime soon. and if you want to go bigger injectors turbo ect id recommend a ts 6 pos chip you can get it re-burned which is when you send it off to a dealer and they can load custom settings. any kind of chip will really wake up your truck and make it more responsive. one thing id highly recommend is getting gauges for your truck tranny temp, boost and etg temp. gauges will help prevent you from blowing your motor. only go with isspro gauges they are expensive but well worth it.

forgot to mention this millage isnt allways a bad thing on diesels at 100,000 miles the motor is broken in. ive seen a 7.3 go up to 500k miles on the motor with no problems you just have to take care of them by keeping up with the maintenance on the truck. just dont dog it by stomping on the petal with a very heavy load or anything stupid like that. unlike gas trucks diesels last much longer.

ok the K&N drop in replacement filters don't seal rght with the air boxletting dirt thru. a 6637 is just fine. i personally hate edge. gauges, then, intake and exhaust- 4" is just fine. the turbo will create all the back pressure you will ever need. Then get a TS style chip. there are many great tuners out there as far as mileage, there is no guarantee that these mods will get you better mileage. me personally if i keep it around 2,000 RPM i'll get 18 +/-. towing i get 12. but my pickup likes running 75.
