The gear is press fit, with a tapered rod. Throw the gear on and tighten... There is no keyway or anything like that.

WTF are you talking about? If there is any soot in the intake manifolds of a 7.3 then you have serious issues...

6.0 and 7.3 are worlds apart my friend.
