Ahhh thanks.. didn't know that. I LOVE vg'ts though... but I hate all the darn green-thumb emmissions put onto our wonderful diesels.

Now, I can't speak for Internationals way of controlling vgt's, but from what I know about my Volkswagen VGT and what I know of cummins guys that use he351's from common-rails onto their 12v's, the turbo is controlled by vacuum. On the TDI's and Internationals, the turbo is controlled both by ecu and vacuum. Obviously, a 12v cummins has no ecu, so they make it work STRICTLY by vacuum somehow...

ok, how seeing how these trucks have vacuum pumps, im not sure if utilizing the pump for this would be the best idea because of the degree of vacuum used. (what im saying is its too much)
im thinking if i installed a vacuum line before the turbo, so vacuum would change with engine rpm, and it would be at much lower levels. otherwise i think i would have to have an electronically operated solenoid to control vacuum from the vacuum pump, which the truck ecm cannot do.

could a tune be written on a aftermarket tuner to control this with the stock ecm???

utilize an un-used input and output on the ecm?

being an emissions inspector from Connecticut, i will say, its a bunch of malarky..... seeing readings from stock 2007/08 ford, gmc, and dodges, with an opacity limit of 20ppm, and a reading of 0, makes me wonder where the epa gets their figures.... these diesels run cleaner than most gasoline powered cars and trucks. but i guess the big $$$ universities need their funding so they tell the govt. what they need to hear.

My tdi also has a vacuum pump. My turbo has a vacuum line leading to the vnt rod (resembles a wastegate; has an actuator and a vacuum bowl. Pulls on vnt rod when car starts and vacuum is applied. This opens the vanes, thus making the turbo spool faster and spool louder.).
The vacuum line leading to the vnt rod come from my n75 valve, which is computer controlled. The vacuum pump leads to another port in the n75.

Thats crazy that moderns trucks have a reading of 0ppm!!

ok, so pretty much what we're looking at is programming my ecm to control the vgt, inserting 2 pins on the ecm connector and running the wires.

also saw modified 7.3's, 6.0's, 12&24 valves, and duramax's that would smoke out the shop, only read a reading of 5ppm max, all with the same test. i understand the soot is what they're after but otherwise they're clean as a whistle!

As far as reprogramming a truck, your on your own with that one buddy. Sorry hehe

Thats nuts as far as ppm though.. this kind of information nobody ever hears of unless people like you bring it to light and tell others

ok, found out CT is still running the same test for 08 trucks...... all stock trucks are reading at a 0ppm. modified (not heavily, intake, exhaust, and a mild tune) maybe read a 2ppm. again pointless haha

So that test is the only test they have for diesels? Opacity?
