Default 2nd new clutch, same clutch noise???

165k, tow heavy. replaced the factory clutch b/c it would slip with heavy loads with a piece of crap clutch at the auto parts store (i wont say the name). anyways, ever since then, the clutch (or trans?) would make a grinding type noise when rolling up to a stop with the clutch out in any gear. and also if you would be rolling in 1st gear (really any gear) and not giving it any gas to say park a trailer. anyways, the throwout bearing blew into a million pieces last week on my driver. limped it home and put in south bend clutch that everyone says are really good. (its the 375 hp/ 800ft lb clutch). new clutch seems to work really well but the noise is actually louder than the cheaper clutch. my tranny guy says this is normal throwout bearing noise and happens alot after a new clutch replacement. is this so??? another guy said the noise will go away over time...how long, i put 1000-2000miles a week on this truck now. thanks!!! i had another guy drive it, and he swears its input bearing noise but it does it iin every gear and seems like an awful odd coincidence that the only noise the trans ever made before replacing the stocker was a slight whiny noise backing up with a heavy load on.

is it the growling noise you're talking about? that's caused by the engine vibrations going in to the tranny. mine does it, my old one did it, buddies does it, old bosses does it, i wouldn't worry about it. i believe the OBS have a dual mass fly wheel. that decreases the noise. with the south bend clutch, did you replace the fly wheel too?

yeah, replaced the dual flywheel out for the single. clutch works great, and yes, its a growling type noise mainly heard when lugging it or coming to a stop without the clutch in. as soon as you push in the clutch, it goes away likes its the throwout bearing making the noise. thanks, just wanted to make sure that nothings wrong, but its the 2nd clutch and they both made the same noise where as the stocked did not. thanks again...

yep, pretty much! didn't make the noise til we put a new clutch in it about a month ago. that was a piece of crap clutch that the throwout bearing blew apart in only a month so then i put the south bend in it. the clutch works great, as we towed 14k on a 10k trailer today and it worked great!!!

Glad the clutch is good! what is the exact clutch kit you have? I'm gonna have to do one really soon. How's it hold under a heavy load?

i have the 375hp, 800ft lb clutch. if you need the exact number i can look through my receipts...after the mandatory 750 mile break in (((, 3 miles from my garage to my house!) we threw a 13,500lb load on my 9500lb trailer, (around 28k total-don't ask!) and it didn't slip one bit. very happy with the clutch thus far. i have another guy running that truck right now, so if he can tear it up, he will!!! We put around 5,000miles in the 2 weeks the clutch has been in, and no issues. knock on wood!

good to hear! i have to run stock right now. it's slipping that bad. i've been talking to the SBC guys and they suggested the 1939DF. it's the 4 paddle semi designed. i'm really not sure which one to get.
