Rebuild Problem
About a year ago i was given a 1994 powerstroke. about 2 months later as soon as it would get warmed up it started to shut off on me when it was just sitting there idling. well i did all i could think of to try and find the problem but i could never pin it down so i took it into the diesel shop in town and turns out my hpop was bad along with the rings in the 8th cylinder had carbonized so i had no pressure. Seein as it was gonna have to be torn down to fix the piston i decide to just have it rebuilt. when it was all said and done my bill came to 6 grand. That was pretty frusterating considering what i was quoted was considerably less but the heads were rebuilt and i did have to buy a new hpop and ipr valve. 2 months later i start to notice a noise in the engine and turns out they had starved the engine for oil. the crank completely ran through the bearings into the copper causing one of the pistons to tap the bottom of the head and scar the cylinder wall. the shop agreed that it was their fault and agreed to fix it. They sent the block to vegas to be machined but when it came back it was short blocked. new crank, new pistons, new oil pump and a new oil pan. Now the shop is trying to tell me i have to pay for the new pistons and the oil pump. the bill comes to about 1000 dollars. So my question is do i pay for them or not? the way i see it is i wouldnt be in this situation if they hadnt of screwed it up in the first place. The other thing i would like to know is if its a standard thing to do when one cylinder is bad if they bore them all or just bore the one and sleeve it? My uncle owns a shop and hes telling me that when you short block an engine its standard when one cylinder is scored to bore them all and that the new oil pump was put it so the shop in vegas could warranty their work. If any one has any info that could help me i would appreciate it and if you have any questions about the situation that might help you understand it better please ask. Thanks a ton guys
