So today I drove a 97 powerstroke extended cab 4x4 with around 205000 miles on it. It started and ran good. Did have some blow by and very little leakage(gaskets). Ran it down the road and tried to put it in 4wd. It wouldn't budge. Owner said "push down then pull". I did and snapped the 4wd selector off the truck!!! This one had some blow-by but still pulled strong. Other than the doors and over the wheels rusting and of course snapping off the 4wd selector, it seemed like a decent truck. I then went to drive a 93 idi that had been turbocharged by Banks. Over 300000 miles on it. It had considerable blow-by and was leaking oil all over the place. On top of this, the owner basically said he wouldn't sell it to me because I wouldn't like it. I told him fine and left. What a jerk. I have a couple of more I want to check out. The first one is a NA IDI(93) and the other is a 97 powerstroke dually. I really don't want a dually but I feel like my options are shrinking before I end up with a regular gas something or other. The hope is still alive for now How modifiable/reliable are th 6.5's? I have done little research on them but they do come up in some of my search parameters.

LOL 6.5's are terrible. They are decent on mileage but thats all they have going for them. ALL diesels have blowby.

Well, I have seen and driven some more trucks. I drive a 2000 excursion v 10 gasser. It was basically junk and they had like 2 extra quarts of oil on the dipstick! WTF? Looked at a 97 dually 4x4, but it was leaking too much oil and power steering fluid.

I am seriously considering the 94 PSD. The trans is solid and I think I can pick it up for 3 grand. Going to go look at it again tonight.

I know. They sure aren't diesels. But in 07 when they first came out they had a lot of innovations for a half ton truck. The 381hp and 400 ft pounds of torque were highest in the class at the time and the 6 speed automatic was pretty stout. The ring gear was 10.5 inches. Some guys were supercharging and running 12's. It is nothing like what some of the diesels can do, that is for sure.

Sure they've got all the bells and whistles... and junk c-channel frames, terrible (weak) suspension, fuel hogs, breaking tail gates, and the list goes on.

I dont care about a truck that can run 12's but can still tow less than my '97 f250 :P
