Is it possible to do this mod without taking the FPR off
or is it easier to take it off.

Which i did,but somewhere it went down hill and bent the spring, now finding a spring is not going to be easy. Looks like i will have to buy a complete fuel bowl to get the spring.
The FORD spring kit appears to be not available.

Fuel Pressure Regulator Repair Kit (contains spring, valve spool & new brass plug)
(Ford) F5TZ-9K061-A (federal emissions; 94-98)
(Ford) F6TZ-9K061-AA (CA emissions; engine serial no. 201681-98)

Fuel Pressure Regulator Spring
(International) 1823643-C1 (federal emissions; 94-98
(International) 1825854-C1 (CA emissions; engine serial no. 201681-98

hope that helps you.

Just pull the brass plug, pull everything out that way like the pictures above show.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that spring was like looking for hens teeth.

I've never heard of an ajustable screw mod... I used a 4-40 screw in my SD fuel bowl, but the way to adjust it was to grind the head of the screw down...

Interesting.

I don't think you can get just the spring, you have to get the whole kit. If you do that, get the california one, it has the higher pressure you are looking for.

old thread.. but what is the difference in pressure between using the reg spring and the cali kit? also, what was the outcome and resulting pressure / idle like once you changed them?

it would be much better for everyone if people that have this knowledge post the details for the rest of us...

reason i ask is because i recently changed my fuel pump and rebuilt the fuel bowl as well. the first couple days after the trucl idled extremely smooth instead of shaking at every red light. that didnt last though. 2 or 3 days later it was right back to shaking.

i know my status says newbie, but i belong to anther powerstroke forum, and im getting tired of people telling me to just google eveytime i ask a question there. i wind up having to search 5 other powerstroke forums for an answer and it defeats the purpose of me even asking in the first place.

HI,kctyphoon,Sorry about not posting results from CALI spring kit, pressure went up to 65psi.
But after replacing HPOP trany went out and at 271,000 miles got tired of sending good money after bad,so scraped the truck. because the next thing we were looking at was engine going bad could not afford anymore lessons,THANK'S

wow.. sorry to hear about the truck, but thanks for the reply.. im just getting really frustrated with forums lately. i know what its like though.. everytime something breaks its always "cheaper" to fix the one thing than having to buy a new car, but then after a bad year or two you wind up throwing away what could have been the payments on something new, or at least newer.. again - thanks for the response..

if you dont mind one more question, did it make a big change with your idle? i have to check my pressure .. my idle is really starting to **** me off.. along with the 5 other projects i need to do with this truck.

HI,It seemed to smooth out a little, but like i said 271,000 miles did not help.
The one thing that i thought was strange was when i changed the HPOP was it only took two
turns of the engine to start and did not miss a lick i had read somewhere you had to drive it
for sometime to get the air out of the system,THANK'S
