FPR shim?
 

ok, I heard of a mod called the FPR shim which is basically free and bumps up fuel pressure? i have not seen a how to or had this mod properly explained. Is it worth the effort?? Is it hard on other parts?? I dont want to put additional stress on other parts, just tryin to pinch pennies for performance and reliability.

Basically the FPR shim is to increase fuel pressure because after a while the Stock mechanical pump falls below desired and you want to keep it up around 60-70psi. Anything over 70psi will cause the pump to work too hard and could kill it. Take a tire pressure gauge and measure your fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the side of the fuel bowl. It will spray fuel so be aware. If the pressure is lower than 40 then you can take a bb from a Red Ryder and put it inside the FPR and it will increase your fuel pressure. I have done it and mine is about 65 psi at idle... It wont gain you any power, just knowing that when you hit the throttle hard, you aren't spiking your fuel pressure too low.

my buddy did this on his 95 PSD and he said it starts alot easier and idles a little smoother. but that's about it...

i did it to mine 5 minutes is all it took and my fp went from 55 to 70

Yup, its not a HP mod, just something that can help with drivablity.

just replaced the lift pump and going to check fuel pressure....

Hi, well tried to do FPR shim,ground down screw to inside,took wire cutters to keep screw&nut
from moving,got pressure up from #40 to#50,tried adjusting screw a little, pressure went to #100. Pulled brass plug found spring bent into. When i was adjusting screw i went a quarter turn at a time and pressure stayed at #50,then went right to #100 with no small increases at
all,THE FORD FPR spring kit appears to be unknown to ford parts dept.

What do you mean "ground down screw inside"?

You just need to pull the brass plug, pull the spring and triangular shaped piece. Drop the bb in the triangular shaped piece, put the spring back in and put the brass plug back on making sure to center the sharp little point that's attached to the back of the brass plug into the center of the spring. Tighten the plug and done.

There are three ways of doing this one is to take and use a 4-40 screw&nut to make it adjustable, thats where grinding the head of the screw to fit into cylinder and if your pressure is not where it needs to be you can back the screw out until you get what you need.
Which i did,but somewhere it went down hill and bent the spring,now finding a spring is not going to be easy. Looks like i will have to buy a complete fuel bowl to get the spring.
The FORD spring kit appears to be not available.
