Default Noob with questions

Hey guys, I just picked up a '94 Ford F250 with the 7.3 diesel engine & just have some questions. I looked around through the search button function but didn't get what I was wanting to (I found things on what to modify 1st). I've been reading around here for over a year now & finally found what I wanted to buy but the threads here have been really helpful so far.

-What do I need to get checked/replaced as far as the engine goes from the beginning? (glow plugs, belts, etc) And in what order should I replace/take care of?

-What should I look out for as far as troubles or things that can go wrong?

-Theres no owners manual but how can I check to see what gearing is in my rear axle (I have a 2wd) & what tranny I'm running (I have an auto)?

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the site!
1- i would just play it by ear. you dont want to go replacing things that are still good. I myself am new to the diesel world, but when i got my 95 PSD i thought the same exact thing, lets replace everything so nothing goes out. turns out alot of what i was going to do had already been done or didnt eve n need to be. so i just play it by ear. thats my opinion on the matter
2- you have an automatic, thats a steaming pile of cow crap. i have one and in my opinion, automatics suck *****. your EBPV could give you fits, just unplug it. thats just about all the help i am on that
3-i cant help you out on your gearings, sorry. but you have an E40D tranny

look at the door tag. it will say a number or a number/letter. mine says a c5. which is 4:10. a 35 has 4:10. those are the most common two.

First if not already done is a 6637 air cleaner mod. Then get rid of the flat exhaust pipe and install a 3" down pipe so the beast can breathe. These are cheap mods with good returns. Welcome to the forum.

I am a newbie on this forum been on Ford Truck Enthusiast forum for about 4 years as well as powerstroke nation. These are also great forums. Do a search for Bazes Pages on hints and tips for Powerstrokes. Good luck.

I thought of the air cleaner & exhaust when I was runnin her home the 1st time. I drove her over 70 miles to get home & she ran strong - the suspension is shot to **** but I can fix that without anyproblems (considering I like to build offroaders). She aint pretty but she's got an aluminum flat bed & a strong engine/tranny & thats what I needed - shes gonna be my 'little' work truck.

94' was a split year. Some trucks have a 7.3 turbo diesel that is not a powerstroke. It is a completely different beast. Are you certain which one you have? The powerstroke is also a 7.3 and you did not specify.
