Default edge programmer setting?

I have just purchased a 97 PSD that had a edge programmer in it when i purchased it , the setting is on extreme , I was wondering if it was bad to run around on this setting all the time , or should I try and program it down to a lower level? I am a little skeptical of using the programmer now after reading all of the problems they have had with them disabling your truck.

Love the PSD though!!

and glad to hear you love the PSD. It was my understanding that running on extreme all the time was bad too. It should have have different settings already on it. If you can afford to, and since you're worried about it, maybe ditch the Edge, have the computer re-flashed and then get the chip or tuner that you want. I've heard people are usually pretty happy with TS and Tony Wildman 6 position chips.

You have to take it to your local Ford dealer. Not sure what it would cost for a PSD but I know that the shop I take my stuff to(when I can't fix it myself) had to send a Mitsubishi car in to get re-flashed and it was going to be like 130 bucks, just to give you some idea. I'm sure you could call the service department and get an estimate.

Were would I look to check if a chip is installed? Manual says to remove any aftermarket chip, tuners/programmers before using the evolution? I don't know what all was done to this truck.

Evolution would be the Edge. Is that the manual for the Edge? I'm not real sure on a PSD exactly where to look. I've helped put one in a 6.7 Cummins and you had the box under the hood and then it plugged into different sensor connections. Did you buy the truck at a dealer or was it a private party sale?

Yes the manual is for the edge evolution . I want to go with the TS 6 position chip but I won't be able to for a while. Our local ford dealer just left the area so I will have to travel a ways to get it reflashed. I purchased the truck through a used car dealer but it was for sale from an employee. I asked the previous owner to leave a list of the things he has done to it so far but received no information. I would like to keep the evolution to run diagnostics, and clear codes but I don't know if a chip and tuner will go together?

Oh man, that sucks about the Ford dealer. I would go into where you bought and talk to the guy, if possible. That would be nice to keep the edge for. I forgot they can do that. I have a little handheld OBD-II code reader that I bought when I had my 96 Ram(its the only truck I've had that was new enough to need it). Its a handy tool. I know that you can "stack" chips but I don't know if its only certain ones or anything else.

You're welcome. Wish I could've been more help but where I'm at, there aren't many Fords, let alone PSDs. Around here, if you're running a gasser, its a Chevy, if you have a diesel, its a Cummins.
