exhaust: money Vs. performance gain
Whats up guys first post here. I am new to the diesel world and I am becoming addicted quick.
I have a 97 long bed f250 auto (wish it was a 5 speed) 160,000 miles got her for a 2800 bucks
anyways I want to do the exhaust to make it breath better lower egt etc etc, right now I have no kitty or muffler just straight factory pipe my question is:
should I just replace the downpipe with a nice 3 inch down pipe for 80ish dollars
go with a 3 inch down pipe and four inch exhaust 400ish
or four inch dp and four inch exhaust 500+
the truck also has an afe stage 3 intake and edge programer

If i remember right but i could be wrong its a pita to get a 4 inch down pipe installed on that year of truck. I think you have to bend the firewall or so ive heard. I would go with the aftermarket 3 inch down pipe which would be more free flowing than factory. Then go to a 4 inch exhaust the rest of the way

Look up Tymar Performance and give Dale a call. Really friendly guy and knows alot about our year powerstrokes. I bought my exhaust from him not sure on the price but is wasn't breaking the bank. What I got was a stepped downpipe the goes 3in to 3.5in to 4in and then a 4in exhaust that dumps in front of the passenger side tire. Pretty simple install and sounds great. I was pulling the boat out of the water a couple weeks ago and actually had a dogde guy come over and compliment the exhaust.
