hows the fuel filter?

 

fuel filter is new but the old one was a cheap one i changed it right after i got the truck about a month ago and it was full of just crap. but i try the sending unit i can just clean it and put it back on correct no need to buy nething new? sorry i new to diesels and know very little if ne so sorry if that a dumb question

 

Yea you should just be able to clean it and put it back, just be careful not to break any connectors.

 

alrite thats not gna stop the smoke tho is it?
that just to try and get it to have fuel preassure so mayb itll drive itself correct?

There is no injection pump on a 7.3l POWERSTROKE...

White smoke after an injector install leads me to a fuel issue. Be it a cut o ring, damaged o ring, unseated injector or not tqed injector. Nothing about white smoke says turbo...

Turbo issue, sounds like someone did not hook up the wastegate correctly or did not connect the EBPV and its just flaping in the wind so to speak.

I also agree with Big hillbilly, I have been stuck on the side of the road with a bad fuel pump before. My issue was of my own making, I added a pre pump filter and forgot about it, the filter got plugged and 20" of vac...

When he says clean the pick up, he is talking about in the fuel tank, not anywhere on the motor. You will have to pull the bed or drop the tank to do this. I prefer pulling the bed for most, so long as you dont have a bunch of crap bolted to the bed... fuel tank, tool boxes and such...

 

7.3 were notoruose for cranking, white smoke = timing= fuel

first make sure your oil level is good, bad oil level will cause injectors to not work properly, then look at the injectors, If I remember correctly your #8 injector is different from the others and has to be installed a specific way, going off of memory, so i could be wrong with the injector.

There is that small metal screen that's on the outside of the filter housing. It's inside a small black canister that screws off. I've seen junk in there that'll cause that. Oh, and the #8 injector is refered to as a long lead injector. I've heard two reasons for it being different 1. I solves a cackle noise in the engine. 2. #6 and #8 fire very close together and #8 gets starved for oil so they put a different one in it. I'm not sure which one's the truth.

 

my truck ran like that so i assumed it was water and was right just drained the filter and put some anti gel additive in it and badda bing she ran great i doubt this is the problem but u never know

 

Check your fuel pressure coming out or the fuel pump. it sounds like its starving for fuel
