I have a 97 ford powerstroke with the auto trans 4x4, and want to put a standard trans in it. i notice when i removed my auto, there is a large wireing harness that i had to disconect for the transmissions computor? what is involved in switching transmissions? will the same year ford powerstroke trans bolt up and plug in or do i need to mess with the wirering harness?

i want to get this thing going, but dont want to buy a standard transmission to find out it doesnt work? someone must know about this???Please help

 

Your going to have to change Computers.

 

also a couple of those wires will be used to go to the rev switch on the trans for back up lights. there is a wiring connector under the dash that has a jumper plug installed that will plug into the clutch switch. you can eave the jumper in but the truck will start with the clutch engaged.
