Default Help, Engine Frustrating

Okay, so backstory of my truck. I own a 1997 F350 crew cab with the 7.3 turbo diesel in it. It is 2wd with the TTB up front . I have not done a whole lot of work on it myself but it suited me well when I needed it for work back in November. Anyways, the problem I am having is it is a POS in the cold weather so far. I love 7.3 engines. They always enticed me and I finally had to have one. I picked mine up in July and it has been great to me until now. I live out here in Oregon and we have had some bad weather. I plug my truck in two hours prior to taking off so she gets a good warm up. I start her and let her run for 5-15 minutes. When I start driving I get up to 5mph and then the truck makes this loud horrific noise and won't accelerate even with my foot on the floor. The more I push on the gas the louder the noise gets. It is like a loud roar. It won't shift or anything. I let off and just drive slowly and it does that on and off. It isn't until about fifteen minutes into the drive that it seems to stop. Please give me any guess because I am at my wits end with this truck. Thanks guys and great to be here!
